Gilton Mkumbwa

Gilton Mkumbwa holds a Degree in Information Technology and currently studying Masters in Computer Applications. He is working with Institute of Chartered Accountants in Malawi.

Gilton Mkumbwa started his arbitration journey locally in 2006, before earning the Fide Arbiters title in 2007 .He later got the zenith International Arbiter badge in 2016.

Mkumbwa, has inspiringly handled crucial events both locally and internationally as Chief Arbiter and Deputy Chief Arbiter. Some of the events he has handled include Mdina Malawi Open Chess Championship, Zone 4.3 Chess Championship, Africa Individual Chess Championships (both at senior and junior level), World Amateurs Chess Championship, and World Chess Olympiad. Arbitration has taken him to Seychelles, Estonia, Zambia, Namibia, Singapore, South Africa and Norway.

However, this is not the first time Mkumbwa has been appointed in a commission. He also served in the Zone 4.5 Arbiters commission from 2020 to 2022.

He was also Publicity Secretary of Chess Federation of Malawi from 2010 to 2014 and Southern Region Chess League General Secretary from 2006 to 2010.
