8th IA Seminar – Report

The 8th Internet Based International Arbiter Certification Seminars were held in Budapest from 15th to 18th September 2024. It was organized in the media center of the 45th Chess Olympiad, by the FIDE Arbiters’ Commission, under the auspices of FIDE.

The Lecturers Lecturers were IA Laurent Freyd (FRA) and IA Carolina Soliz Munoz (CRC), both FIDE Lecturers.

The Language of the Seminar was English.

The model of the seminar was the following:

– 4 times 4 hours in classroom in the morning
– Usage of a case study on running an event, from A to Z, as the leading thread for the lectures’ content
– Daily homework from one session to the next (counted as part of the contribution and technical evaluation of the participants
– Exam split into 4 parts (1 chessclock challenge, 2 questions on title norms, 3 questions on closing the event, 5 questions on the behaviour of the chief arbiters)

Lecturers and participants used Chamilo for the first time in such a seminar.

Eighteen (18) arbiters from fourteen (14) national federations (AND, GHA, HUN, IRQ, LAT, MAD, NAM, POL, SLO, SRB, TAN, TJK, TTO, URU) participated in the Seminar, and all of them participated in the evaluation test that was held after the end of the lectures.

The following succeeded in the test and they will be awarded a norm for the title of the International Arbiter, after the approval of the next FIDE Council:
