Luciano Rietter is an electrical engineer by the Regional University of Blumenau (Brazil), currently a PhD candidate at University of Minho in Portugal, where he works as a researcher. He worked for several years with chess initiation for children in public schools in Santa Catarina, a Brazilian southern state, and received the title of International Arbiter in 2021. He has also contributed as Arbiters’ Director at the Santa Catarina Chess Federation (FCX) since 2019, being responsible to form the arbiter teams to act during the official events in that state.
He acted in important online events during the Covid-19 pandemic outbreak, such as the Online Nations Cup and World Online Championships. In Hybrid events, he participated in Continental events for Europe (ECU) and America (CCA).
The list of official over-the-board events in which he was an arbiter include important American championships and several National events in Brazil. Also, many International events in Brazil and Europe, including the Sunway Sitges (Spain) and Trás-os-Montes (Portugal), and the Floripa Chess Festival (Brazil), one of the biggest events in South America for years, in which he is part of the organizing committee.
