From 25 to 27 April 2014 a Workshop for the training of the International Arbiters was organized in Brussels, Belgium, by the Antwerp Chess Clubs Union (Antwerps Schaak Collectief), in cooperation with the FIDE Arbiters’ Commission and under the auspices of FIDE.

The venue of the Workshop was the conference hall of the Novotel Diegem Hotel, in Brussels, where all the participants were accommodated.

The lecturers were IA Geurt Gijssen (NED), Chairman of the FIDE Rules and Tournament Regulations Commission and FIDE Lecturer and IA Panagiotis Nikolopoulos (GRE), Chairman of the FIDE Arbiters’ Commission and FIDE Lecturer.

The lectures were in English language.

The subjects that were discussed during the lectures included the changes of the Laws of Chess that will be in effect from 1 July 2014, the changes in the titles and ratings regulations that are in effect from 1 July 2013 and those that will be in effect from 1 July 2014, the regulations for the titles of Arbiters, the regulations for the Dutch Swiss system, the cheating in Chess and Anti cheating guidelines for the Arbiters and incidents that happened during the games and the Arbiter’s decisions.

Twenty (20) International Arbiters from twelve (12) Federations (Germany, Belgium, Netherlands, England, Italy, Finland, Faroe Islands, Spain, Croatia, Mongolia, Ukraine, France and Turkey) participated in the Workshop and received certificates of attendance after the end of the lectures.
