Obituary for ΙΑ David Welch
The FIDE Arbiter’s commission was informed with great sadness that IA David Welch from England passed away on November 9th 2019.
Our colleague and friend David Welch was one of the key figures in the British chess community, influencing many arbiters from younger generations through his vast experience in tournaments of any levels. Always friendly and happy to share knowledge and good practices, he played many years the role of Chief Arbiter for the English Chess Federation. International Arbiter since 1977, he received the FIDE Arbiter’s Award in 2016.
We are losing a “building mind”, may he inspire our future work for the development of arbiters.
The Commission express their sincere condolences to his family and to the English Chess Federation.
