7th IA Seminars – Report
The 7th Internet Based International Arbiter Certification Seminars were held from 10th to 11th August 2024. It was organized by the FIDE Arbiters’ Commission, under the auspices of FIDE.
The Lecturers Lecturers were IA Alex McFarlane (SCO) and IA Anastasia Sorokina (AUS), both FIDE Lecturers.
The Language of the Seminar was English.
The lectures lasted in total for sixteen (16) hours and during them, the following subjects were presented and discussed:
a) The changes of the Laws of Chess (including Rapid, Blitz and Appendices) in 2023 and in 2018, with analyzed study cases.
b) The role and the duties of the Arbiters and the Chief Arbiter in tournaments
c) The System of games and the tie breaks regulations with the recent changes.
d) The Swiss system and the pairing rules, with practical examples
e) The Fair Play regulations for Arbiters with analyzed study cases
f) The Regulations for the titles of Arbiters.
g) The use of electronic clocks, the electronic boards, and the basic chess terms.
h) The FIDE Rating and over‐the‐board titles with the recent changes, with practical examples.
Twenty-three (23) arbiters from seventeen (17) national federations (ARG, ARM, ENG, GER, FRA, IND, ISR, KAZ, KEN, MAR, MNE, PAN, PHI, POL, SRB, TUR, USA) participated in the Seminar, and all of them participated in the evaluation test that was held after the end of the lectures.
The following succeeded in the test and they will be awarded a norm for the title of the International Arbiter, after the approval of the next FIDE Council:
